Kilkenny Roots Festival

There’s nowhere better to spend the May Bank Holiday weekend than beautiful Kilkenny. From the 3rd – 6th May the cultural heart of Ireland lives up to its reputation as it hosts the one and only Kilkenny Roots Festival.

Wind your way through Kilkenny’s medieval streets sampling the huge mixture of old and new acts on the free pub gig trail, as part of Kilkenny Roots Festival. All musical styles are catered for, from swing to bluegrass, rockabilly to cajun, folk, blues and beyond.

Smithwick’s Kilkenny Roots Festival celebrates its twenty second year with an exciting line-up including Grammy winner Patty Griffin, legendary Mexican-American rock musician, songwriter and singer Alejandro Escovedo, Canadian roots rockers The Sadies, retro country soul band The Delines and bluesy guitarist/vocalist Joey Landreth. Also confirmed for 2019 are Michael McDermott – described by author Stephen King as “one of the best songwriters in the world,” Virginia native Dori Freeman and River Whyless. Latest additions to the 2019 line-up include The Accidentals, Susto, Robbie Fulks, Malojian and William The Conqueror.
